Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in the year 2017 and was the number one streamed track in just 6 months. The mix of reggaeton with pop music not only brought an interest to the music genre but also Latin music in general. In 2015, there were two mostly Spanish-language songs on Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. In 2017, at the height of Despacito's popularity 19, 19 tracks mostly Spanish were included in the Top 100. In the year 2020, there will be 41 songs in this category. The release of Justin Bieber's bilingual version to Despacito (2017) the most well-known musicians soon began collaborating with reggaeton musicians, such as Drake with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) and Madonna and Maluma for Medellin (2019). In the year 2020, a handful of reggaeton musicians were unhappy with their genre's shift towards the mainstream. But a fresh generation, including Rauw Alejandro wanted to maintain the pace of evolution in reggaeton. The genre often incorporated elements of various genres, as well as electronic dance.
